1. Nosing for Granite

Nosing in Granite work refers to finishing of the edges in staircase threads, kitchen countertops, etc. Nosing is done to enhance the look of the edge to provide a soothing and safe appearance. Nosing is done with the help of grinders by changing different blades to obtain a smooth finish. Nosing serves various practical purposes like safety while climbing the stairs and durability. Nosing can be done is various styles such as Bullnose nosing (full round), Half bullnose nosing (half-round), Ogee Nosing and DuPont nosing. The choice of nosing depends on the nature of use of the granite surface and aesthetic finishes.

2. Groove cutting

Groove cutting is majorly done to achieve the anti-skid property in stones like granite, marble, etc. Grooves on the Granite improve grip while stepping on them or climbing over the stairs especially during rainy times. They are easy to create and play a vital role. Creating one, two or more grooves on the surface of the granite will improve skid resistance especially in thread portion of the staircase. These grooves are cut using specialized equipment's such as diamond saw blades, dry cutters with different blades or router bits designed for cutting hard stone materials. Grooves also provide better water drainage from the surface preventing pooling and water damages.

3. Chamfering

Granite chamfering is the process of creating beveled or angled edges along the corners of granite surface. This is done to improve safety properties and also give a modern look. Chamfered edges reduce sharpness of corners especially in kitchen slabs and stairs minimizing the risk of injury from accidental bumps. Chamfered edges are less prone to chipping and damage compared to sharp edges and increase the durability of the surface. They are done using specialized tools such as diamond profile wheels or grinders with diamond chamfering pads. They can be done in different styles as per needs like 45-degree chamfer, 30-degree chamfer and can also be done to suit custom needs. The chamfered edges should be polished to achieve smooth finish that complements the overall look of the installation.

4. The double Granite finish look

This is a design technique that involves placing a granite strip below the surface of the above granite to give a double granite finish look. These finishes are done especially to external staircase threads to enhance the appearance and obtain an elegant look. Initially the top surface is placed and then a strip of 2-Inch-wide granite is carefully pasted below the top surface along lengthwise, this technique gives a double finish look. These two edges should be then finished by bullnose nosing or edge chamfering and then polished using specialized equipment's that enhances its appearance by creating a smooth, glossy finish. This approach can add depth, texture and dimension to granite installations.

These are the most commonly used finishes for Granite work in and around Bengaluru. Choose the right one to satisfy the design and nature of the use. These finishes enhance the look of the Granite and also make they safe to avoid injuries from accidental bumps.
